Der in Brüssel lebende französische Künstler Maxime Le Bon (*1989), dessen Zeichnungen letztes Jahr zum ersten Mal bei DuflonRacz in Brüssel zu sehen waren, präsentiert im Projekt Links seine erste Ausstellung in der Schweiz. Le Bon‘s Arbeiten auf Papier verweisen auf Massenmedien und Alltagskulturen der Gegenwart, die hier in Form von Mustern, Zitaten, Witzen und Fragmenten wie in einem burlesken Zerrbild erscheinen – als heiteres Gewirr von Tricks, Lügen, Überfällen, und all den anderen Methoden mit denen man unter die Gürtellinie treffen kann. Le Bon parodiert die groteskeren Aspekte unserer sozialen Normen und erinnert damit an die mittelalterlichen Illustratoren, von denen sich der Künstler immer wieder inspirieren lässt. Vom makabren Karneval zur pompösen Ausstellungseröffnung, vom Beziehungsstreit zur Beerdigung, verdichtet sich die Vielfalt seiner Motive, Stile und Techniken zum Eindruck einer irren, verwirrenden Lebendigkeit.
Maxime Le Bon stammt aus der Bretagne, wo er eine Ausbildung zum Zeichner machte. Den Weg in die freie Kunst fand er als Autodidakt – ohne den Besuch einer Kunsthochschule, jedoch im intensiven Austausch mit Künstlerkollegen, mit denen er 2014 das Atelierhaus Le Sceptre in Brüssel gründete.

We are excited to present the first show in Switzerland by French artist Maxime Le Bon (*1989, lives and works in Brussels). Le Bon’s drawings engage with mass media and contemporary culture – a sequence of subjects, patterns, quotes and fragments, his work is a joyful muddle of tricks, lies, robberies and all the other ways that on can get hit below the belt. Le Bon’s work points the finger at what is grotesque in our strict social norms, with parodic overtones resembling those of the medieval illustrators from which he seems to draw much inspiration. From a macabre carnival to the pompous opening of an art exhibition, and from a marital joust to a funeral, the plethora of his styles and techniques contributes to a sense of liveliness and confusion.
Maxime Le Bon is originally from Brittany, France, where he trained as a draughtsman. He began his art practice without an art school background and founded the studio collective Le Sceptre with a group of other artists when he moved to Brussels in 2014.
